Senate Judiciary Committee tied in vote to advance Judge Jackson.
The Senate Judiciary Committee was evenly split along party lines on Monday regarding the advancement of Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination for Supreme Court Justice. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has filed a motion to discharge the nomination from committee, bringing it to the floor for a full vote.
Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina voted against Judge Jackson’s nomination. He and Representative Jim Clyburn, also of South Carolina, had campaigned for the president to nominate South Carolina federal judge J. Michelle Childs, who represented a more moderate choice.
Judge Jackson is likely to be confirmed since Senators Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Mitt Romney of Utah have pledged they will vote in favor of the nomination along with all 50 senators of the majority.
